TIJ

abbreviationStandard termPrinting

Thermal inkjet, a printing technology that uses heat to expel microscopic droplets of ink.

Thermal inkjet is a non-contact printing method where tiny resistors rapidly heat ink inside a cartridge chamber, creating a vapor bubble that forces a droplet out through a nozzle. It is widely used in both desktop printers and industrial packaging lines for printing high-resolution barcodes, batch codes, and expiration dates directly onto substrates.

We're swapping the old continuous coders for TIJ heads to get sharper barcodes on the cartons.

Insider tip

TIJ systems are favored for packaging lines because they require almost zero maintenance compared to continuous inkjet setups. If a nozzle clogs, you just snap in a new cartridge.
