A specialized, curved metal frame or chase used in early rotary cylinder presses to hold composed type or stereotypic plates securely against the rotating cylinder. The wedge-shaped column rules and locking mechanisms within the turtle allowed flat type to conform to the cylinder's arc without flying out during high-speed newspaper runs.
