A historic hot-metal typesetting machine, similar in function to the Linotype, used to cast solid lines of text from molten lead. It utilized a simpler, gravity-driven mechanism where brass matrices slid down wires to assemble into a line before casting. Though slower and less common than the dominant Linotype, it was prized in smaller shops for its mechanical simplicity and smaller footprint.
