Cambox

nounStandard termMechanical

An enclosed mechanical housing that contains and lubricates a camshaft assembly.

A dedicated enclosure that mounts and protects a camshaft, its followers, and associated timing gear. It keeps dirt out and maintains an oil bath or pressurized lubrication environment for the high-friction sliding surfaces of the cams. In modular engine or machine designs, it allows the entire valve or actuation mechanism to be removed and serviced as a single unit.
