Pendant

nounStandard termMaritime

A short length of wire or rope with a spliced eye or fitting used to attach rigging blocks.

A pendant is a fixed line hanging from a mast, yard, or boom that serves as an attachment point for running rigging. Instead of tying a block directly to a spar, riggers attach the block to the pendant, which keeps the hardware clear of the mast and provides a better lead angle for the ropes passing through it.
