Slash pile

nounStandard termForestry

A large mound of woody debris left over after a logging operation, typically gathered for burning or decay.

During timber harvesting, unmerchantable material like tops, limbs, bark, and cull logs are left behind. Operators use heavy equipment to push this debris into concentrated heaps. These piles are often burned during wet or snowy conditions to reduce wildfire hazards and clear the site for replanting.
