This combined implement cuts the soil and drops seed in a single pass. A hopper mounted above the frame dispenses seed directly into the freshly opened furrow before the soil falls back or is pressed over it. While older versions relied on simple gravity feeds, later designs incorporated metering mechanisms to control the spacing and depth of the seed.
Check the metering wheel on the seeding plough before we start the next pass, or we'll end up with gaps in the row.
Using a combined implement saves fuel and time, but requires careful calibration to ensure the seed is not buried too deeply by the turned furrow.
