Ripple

nounStandard termFarming

A comb-like tool used to strip seeds and seed pods from the stalks of harvested flax.

A traditional processing implement consisting of a row of iron teeth set into a wooden block. Workers pull bundles of harvested stalks through the teeth to strip away the seed capsules before the stalks undergo retting. This separates the valuable seed for pressing or replanting while leaving the long bast fibers intact.
