Mask work

nounStandard termElectronics

The two-dimensional and three-dimensional layout designs used to fabricate an integrated circuit.

This represents the physical topography of a semiconductor chip, essentially the blueprints translated into a series of photolithographic stencils. Each mask defines where dopants, metals, or oxides will be deposited or etched on the silicon wafer. Because creating these layouts requires massive engineering effort, they are legally protected intellectual property.
