Matrixing

nounStandard termElectronics

The process of algebraically combining multiple electronic signals into a new set of signals.

This technique uses resistor networks or active operational amplifier circuits to add and subtract audio or video channels. It allows complex information, like stereo audio or color difference video, to be encoded into fewer channels for transmission and then decoded back at the receiver.

The color decoder uses matrixing to derive the red, green, and blue signals from the luminance and chrominance inputs.
