Pipe is how electricians refer to conduit in general, whether EMT, rigid or PVC. A pipe job is one where wire is pulled into installed raceway, as opposed to a cable job with Romex or MC, and running pipe is a skill judged by how straight, plumb and cleanly bent a run looks. Electricians who mostly install conduit get called pipe benders by other trades.
Garage is getting piped in EMT, the owner wants to add circuits later without opening any walls.
