The structural cavity located between the inner ceiling and the outer shell of a domed roof.

The void space separating the interior decorative dome of a building from the exterior weather-shedding dome. This cavity houses the structural framework, such as timber or steel trusses, that supports both layers. It also provides access for maintenance, lighting, and ventilation in large monumental structures.
