Clearspan

nounStandard termBuilding

An interior architectural space that is entirely free of structural support columns.

A structural design that bridges a large distance using only perimeter supports. This is typically achieved with heavy steel trusses or engineered wood beams that carry the roof load without needing intermediate posts. It is highly prized in warehouses, aircraft hangars, and gymnasiums where floor obstructions would ruin the utility of the building.
