A jack post is an adjustable steel column consisting of two telescoping tubes and a heavy-duty threaded screw mechanism at the top or bottom. It is used to temporarily shore up sagging floors, support beams during renovation, or brace trenches. While often used as temporary shoring, heavy-duty concrete-filled versions are sometimes specified as permanent basement columns.
