A kneepiece is a structural reinforcement, typically cut at an angle, that braces the connection between a roof rafter and a wall plate or tie beam. By bridging the inner angle of the joint, it prevents the outward thrust of the roof from pushing the walls apart. It is commonly seen in heavy timber framing and older roof structures.
