Roadholding

nounStandard termAutomotive

The ability of a vehicle to maintain grip and stability during cornering and maneuvering.

A measure of how well a vehicle's suspension, chassis, and tires work together to keep the contact patches planted on the pavement. Good roadholding prevents the car from skidding, bouncing, or rolling excessively during high-speed turns or evasive maneuvers. It is distinct from ride quality, which focuses on passenger comfort.

Heard on the job

Stiffening the rear sway bar improved the roadholding on sweeping corners, but the ride is harsher now.
