BLIS

abbreviationStandard termAutomotive

An electronic safety system that detects and warns the driver of vehicles in adjacent lanes.

BLIS stands for blind spot information system. It uses radar sensors or cameras mounted in the rear bumper or side mirrors to monitor areas the driver cannot easily see. When another vehicle enters the detection zone, the system triggers a visual alert, typically an amber LED in the side mirror housing or A-pillar, to prevent unsafe lane changes.

Heard on the job

The customer states the BLIS light stays illuminated on the passenger side even when the lane is clear.
