Advanced driver-assistance systems that use sensors and cameras to improve vehicle safety.

Advanced driver-assistance systems encompass a network of radar, lidar, cameras, and ultrasonic sensors that actively monitor the vehicle's surroundings. These systems power features like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking. When a windshield is replaced or suspension geometry is altered, technicians must meticulously recalibrate these sensors to ensure they target correctly.

Heard on the job

We had to send the car to the dealer because our shop scanner can't do the ADAS calibration on the new front radar.

Insider tip

Never assume a vehicle's ADAS sensors are aligned after a minor fender bender. Even a bumper bracket bent by a few millimeters can throw a radar unit completely out of spec.
