BSM

abbreviationStandard termAutomotive

The blind spot monitor system uses sensors to detect vehicles in adjacent lanes.

BSM stands for blind spot monitor, an advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) that uses radar or ultrasonic sensors mounted in the rear bumper or side mirrors. It detects vehicles approaching or driving in areas the driver cannot easily see. When a vehicle enters the blind spot, the system alerts the driver, usually by illuminating a warning light in the corresponding side mirror.
