Snape

verbStandard termWoodworking

To cut a bevel on the end of a timber so it fits snugly against a sloped surface.

Snaping is the process of angling the end of a board or beam to match the incline of an adjoining piece. This technique is common in boatbuilding and heavy timber framing where members meet at non-orthogonal angles. A properly snaped joint maximizes the contact area between the two timbers for better load transfer.
