Skirting board

nounStandard termWoodworking

A wooden molding installed along the base of an interior wall where it meets the floor.

A skirting board covers the uneven joint between the wall plaster or drywall and the floor finish. It protects the lower wall from kicks, furniture bumps, and vacuum cleaners while providing a decorative transition. They are usually nailed to the wall studs or a bottom plate and can range from simple flat boards to complex routed profiles.
