Bosun's chair

nounShop talkWaterproofing

A single-person seat suspended from roof rigging, used by caulkers and restoration workers on facades.

A bosun's chair hangs from a descent line or powered hoist anchored at the roof, with a separate safety line and fall arrest. It is cheaper and faster to move than a swing stage and suits caulking, inspection and light repairs one drop at a time. Heavy masonry work and material storage need a stage instead.

Heard on the job

Just one window stack to reseal, put Mike in the bosun's chair, no need to hang the stage.
