True tuckpointing fills joints with mortar matched to the brick color and then adds a thin raised line of contrasting putty to fake fine joints. In much of North America, though, tuckpointing simply means grinding out and refilling mortar joints, and the masons doing it are tuckpointers. Restoration specialists and preservation specs tend to say repointing.
