Duvetyn is a twill or plain-weave fabric heavily brushed on one side to create a soft, velvet-like nap. Because of its dense construction and matte finish, it absorbs light rather than reflecting it. It is heavily used in theater and film for masking light leaks, but also appears in apparel as a cheaper alternative to velvet.
