Emerize

verbStandard termTextiles

To run fabric over abrasive rollers to create a soft, peach-fuzz texture on the surface.

Emerizing is a mechanical finishing process where fabric is drawn over a series of rollers covered in emery paper or a similar abrasive. The friction breaks the surface fibers, raising a micro-nap that feels extremely soft and suede-like to the touch. This process is commonly applied to woven cottons and synthetic blends.
