Entrelac

nounStandard termTextiles

A knitting technique that creates a woven, basket-like texture using interconnected blocks of stitches.

Entrelac is a method of knitting that builds a fabric out of small, interlocking tiers of squares or diamonds. The knitter works one block at a time on a small number of stitches, picking up stitches from the edges of the previous tier to connect them. This creates a continuous fabric that looks like strips of woven ribbon.

I'm using a self-striping yarn for this entrelac scarf so each block comes out a different color.
