Strip

To strip a fastener is to damage its threads or head so that it can no longer be turned.

To damage the mechanical engagement surfaces of a component, most commonly the threads of a bolt or the drive recess of a screw. This usually happens from applying too much torque, using the wrong size tool, or cross-threading during assembly. Once damaged, the fastener requires extraction tools to remove.
