Teleop

nounShop talkRobotics

The remote control of a robot or automated system by a human operator.

Teleoperation is the manual driving or manipulation of a robot from a distance, typically using a joystick, control pendant, or virtual reality interface. It is used when full autonomy fails, during initial mapping runs, or in highly unstructured environments like disaster zones. The operator relies on camera feeds and sensor data transmitted over a network to guide the machine.

Drop the rover into teleop and back it out of that mud pit manually.

Insider tip

Latency is the biggest enemy of teleop. A delay of just a few hundred milliseconds can cause operators to overcorrect and crash.
