AMR

abbreviationStandard termRobotics

An autonomous mobile robot that navigates without physical guides or markers.

Autonomous Mobile Robots use onboard sensors, cameras, and mapping software to understand their environment and navigate dynamically. Unlike older automated guided vehicles that follow wires or magnetic tape, an AMR plans its own path and routes around obstacles. They are heavily used in warehouses and manufacturing floors to transport materials flexibly.

Insider tip

The main selling point of an AMR over an AGV is that you do not have to modify your facility infrastructure to install it.
