A basic oxygen furnace maintenance technique in which, after tapping, high-pressure nitrogen is blown through the oxygen lance onto magnesia-saturated slag left in the vessel, throwing it up onto the walls, trunnions and cone where it freezes as a protective coating. Combined with slag conditioning and gunning, it lets converter linings last tens of thousands of heats instead of a few thousand.
Splash after every heat this week, slag splashing is cheaper than gunning the trunnions.
