Glass industry name for the small extension of the melter, at the back or side of the tank, where the batch charger pushes raw materials and cullet into the furnace. Doghouse refractories take a beating from cold batch, dust and alkali carryover, and the doghouse arch and sidewall blocks are among the most patched areas in a glass furnace.
Doghouse arch is sagging over the left charger, get the hot repair crew to shim it before it drops.
