A transverse structural beam used to support longitudinal stringers under a track.

A heavy transverse timber or steel beam laid perpendicular to the track alignment to support the longitudinal stringers. This arrangement is typically found on older timber trestle bridges or specialized open-deck structures where standard cross-ties cannot be laid directly on the subgrade.
