Overlay

nounStandard termPrinting

A piece of paper added to the tympan to increase printing pressure in a specific spot.

A patch of thin paper pasted onto the tympan or impression cylinder to increase the pressure on a specific area of the printing plate. This technique is part of the make-ready process, ensuring that low spots on the plate print clearly and evenly. It compensates for minute variations in type height.
