Perfecting press

nounStandard termPrinting

A printing machine that prints on both sides of a continuous sheet or web of paper in a single pass.

A perfecting press is a printing machine configured to print on both the front and back of a sheet or web of paper in one continuous operation. It uses a series of cylinders to flip the paper or route it between opposing blanket cylinders. This eliminates the need to run the paper through the press twice, saving time and preventing registration errors between the two sides.

Insider tip

Perfecting presses often require special ink formulations or drying units between units to prevent the first side from smudging when it hits the second set of rollers.
