Operators ramp stock flows, dyes, brightener, filler and speed toward the new targets without stopping the machine, then wait for the lab to confirm the new grade before calling it good. Reels made during the transition are usually broke or downgraded. Color and brightener changes are the slowest, because dye and OBA carried in white water and broke take time to wash out.
Grade change to the cream sheet at 0200, plan on two reels of broke before the shade is in.
Sequence color grades from light to dark where possible; going from a dyed grade back to white means flushing dye out of the whole system.
