Once the sheet leaves the presses it enters the dryer cans, then passes any size press, calender and scanner before winding onto the reel. Dry-end crews handle threading, turn-ups, reel samples and breaks in that zone. Most optical properties are set by the time the sheet gets there, but calendering, moisture and size-press brightener can still move brightness, gloss and opacity.
Dry end crew pulled a sample at the turn-up, and the lab says the opacity is fine.
