An authorisation, signed by the worker's supervisor and radiation protection management, that raises a person's administrative dose control level for a specific need, such as letting a qualified welder finish a critical job. Extensions are justified case by case and capped well below the legal limit, and frequent extensions are treated as a sign of poor dose planning. Workers without one are burned out at the standard level.
She's the only qualified diver, so put in a dose extension to 2.5 rem for the reactor cavity work.
