Informal name for a nuclear-trained sailor in a naval nuclear propulsion programme, and by extension for nuclear plant operators, engineers and anyone in the industry. Former Navy nukes make up a large share of commercial plant operators and RP technicians and bring a strong culture of procedure use and formality. Among themselves the word is affectionate; in the wider world it can also mean the weapon.
New shift supervisor is a former Navy nuke, so expect three-way communication on everything.
