The process of clearing out the fine debris left in the cut after a coal-cutting machine passes.

The manual or mechanical removal of the fine coal dust, clay, and dirt from the undercut beneath a coal seam. If this material is not scraped out, the coal block cannot drop and break apart properly when blasted.
