This mineral processing technique uses a mechanical device called a jig to stratify particles in a fluid medium. Water is forced up and down through a wire mesh or screen holding the crushed ore. Heavier valuable minerals settle to the bottom of the bed while lighter gangue gets pushed to the top and washed away.
