Gulf

nounShop talkMining

An unusually large, thick deposit of ore found within a vein.

A massive, localized swelling of an orebody where the vein suddenly widens out. Miners value these large pockets for their high yield, though they often require specialized timbering to support the massive roof area once the ore is extracted.

Heard on the job

The vein was pinching out, but then it opened into a massive gulf of solid galena.
