The angle at which a fault plane, mineral vein, or lode deviates from a perfectly vertical line. It is the complement to the dip angle (which is measured from the horizontal). Geologists and miners use it to predict where a vein will intersect deeper levels of the mine.
Heard on the job
The fault has a hade of about twenty degrees to the south, so expect the seam to drop on the next level.
Insider tip
Remember that hade is measured from the vertical axis, whereas dip is measured from the horizontal plane. A vertical vein has a hade of zero.
