A drainage ditch cut into the floor of an underground tunnel.

A small channel or gutter hewn directly into the rock floor along the side of a drift or adit. It is designed to catch groundwater and direct it toward a central sump or out of the mine portal, keeping the main walkway and haulage tracks dry.
