A defined block of ground or section of a vein allocated to a crew of miners who extract the ore in exchange for a percentage of its value. This traditional system incentivizes miners to follow the richest parts of the lode and minimize waste rock. The boundaries of the pitch are strictly negotiated with mine management before extraction begins.
