Suttle

nounStandard termMaritime

The weight of a cargo shipment after deducting the weight of its container or packaging.

The intermediate calculated weight of a bulk or packaged cargo once the tare weight (the container, wrapping, or pallet) is subtracted from the gross weight. It represents the actual physical weight of the goods themselves before any further commercial allowances for transit loss, dust, or damage are applied.

The manifest shows a gross of four thousand kilos, but the suttle is only thirty-eight hundred once we deduct the steel drums.
