An older logging implement consisting of a simple A-frame or sled pulled by draft animals. Loggers chained the heavy butt end of a log to the sled to keep it from digging into the dirt, while the lighter top end dragged behind. This reduced friction and kept the most valuable part of the log clean for the sawmill.
The old-timers used a horse and travois to pull these massive white pines out of the swamp.
