Jet siphon

nounStandard termFire & Safety

A specialized drafting appliance used to transfer water between portable folding tanks.

This hard suction hose attachment uses the Venturi effect to move large volumes of water without a dedicated transfer pump. A small hose line feeds pressurized water into the device, creating a vacuum that pulls surrounding water through a larger tube. Rural fire departments rely on them during tanker shuttle operations to keep the primary drafting tank full.

Heard on the job

Drop the jet siphon into the secondary drop tank and crack the inch-and-a-half line to start transferring water.
