Deluge

nounStandard termFire & Safety

A fixed fire protection system that floods an entire area with water.

A specialized sprinkler system where all nozzles are open and connected to a dry pipe. When heat or smoke detectors trip the main valve, water flows simultaneously from every head, instantly drenching the entire protected hazard. It is installed in high-hazard industrial areas, such as chemical storage facilities or aircraft hangars, where a fire would spread too fast for standard closed-head sprinklers.
