Potato spinner

nounStandard termFarming

An implement that uses a rotating wheel of tines to dig up potatoes.

A tractor-mounted or horse-drawn harvesting implement used to lift root crops, primarily potatoes, from the soil. A flat share runs beneath the potato ridge to loosen the earth, while a rotating wheel fitted with tines spins perpendicular to the row, throwing the soil and tubers to the side for manual collection.

Heard on the job

The ground is a bit wet, so run the potato spinner slowly or we'll end up burying half the crop in mud.
