A level-triggered circuit evaluates and passes its input signals whenever its clock or enable line is held at a steady high or low voltage. Unlike edge-triggered devices that only capture data at the exact moment the clock transitions, a level-triggered latch remains transparent and continuous while the clock is active. This can cause timing issues if the input changes unexpectedly while the gate is open.
Heard on the job
The interrupt controller is level-triggered, so you need to clear the interrupt flag before re-enabling it or it will fire again immediately.
Do not mix it up with
- Edge-triggered: Level-triggered devices respond continuously while the clock is high or low, whereas edge-triggered devices respond only at the exact instant the clock changes state.
